2024 NFL Draft Sleepers: Wide Receivers - Dynasty Pros Football (2024)

Sleeper Wide Receivers

The draft is less than a month away, so to finish out the series, here are my sleeper wide receivers. (Here are Cody Folden’s top 10 wide receiver prospects —Part One and Part Two.)

The class is a deep one, so there are plenty of names not covered. Here are three more names that are outside the top 10 who may surprise people by being drafted higher than expected.

Jermaine Burton, Alabama

Jermain Burton was a top 100 recruit in 2020 and chose Georgia over LSU, Miami, and Oregon. He had moderate success at Georgia his first two years with 53 catches for 901 yards and 8 touchdowns. Burton decided he needed a change of scenery and transferred to SEC rival Alabama.

In 2022, he had an uptick in catches, yards, and receptions but, at times, did not seem to be able to get open along with the other Alabama receivers. Burton decided to return for his senior year — which ended up being his best year — but he still did not get over the 1,000-yard plateau.

Burton shows tons of promise and has the speed to be a deep threat at the next level. He is a smooth runner with the moves to make defenders miss. I have concerns that the most targets he got in a season were 58, and there are concerns about consistency.

Burton should be a day-two player, and if he can improve on route running and beating the press, he could develop into a high-end WR2.

Javon Baker, UCF

2024 NFL Draft Sleepers: Wide Receivers - Dynasty Pros Football (2)

Javon Baker was a top 200 recruit who chose Alabama in 2020, and transferred to UCF in 2022. In two years at Alabama, Baker only had nine catches but had an immediate impact at UCF. He had 56 catches for 796 yards and 5 touchdowns.

In Baker’s senior season, his targets and catches decreased, but he increased his yardage by almost 350 yards and had two more touchdowns. His yards per reception leaped to the biggest of his career at over 21 yards per catch.

Baker is a traditional boundary receiver and lined up out wide over 75% of his snaps in 2023. He is an aggressive and physical receiver who knows how to highpoint the ball. Baker has strong hands that can snatch the ball out of the air in front of defenders and has great body control.

My main concern is the lack of separation and the lack of production in the middle of the field. I think Baker could develop into a more all-around receiver, but at least to start off with, he will be a deep threat and be great in the red zone.

Roman Wilson, Michigan

2024 NFL Draft Sleepers: Wide Receivers - Dynasty Pros Football (3)

Roman Wilson was a top 225 prospect in 2019 who chose Michigan over some West Coast PAC 12 schools. Wilson had little impact in 2020, with nine receptions, but had moderate success in 2021 and 2022, with 25 receptions both years.

In 2023, Wilson had an uptick in targets, receptions, yards, and touchdowns. He only had 48 receptions and did not surpass 800 yards, but he had 12 touchdowns and showed significant improvement in his senior year.

I did not ever think Wilson would be drafted before the fourth round, but his combine and senior bowl performance have put him in discussions all the way up to the second round. He is a great route runner and shows off great body control with great hands. Wilson is very quick in and out of breaks and is exceptional on crossing routes.

My worries would be physicality against bigger defenders and the lack of production. Wilson has great speed but was not necessarily used as a deep threat. He was used more outside in 2023, but I think he will be a slot receiver exploiting the intermediate areas of the field in the NFL.

As I stated earlier, this class is exceptionally deep as these three players are outside Cody’s top ten receivers and still should be day two players. I think all three players could be in the top three of a team’s wide receiver depth chart come the regular season.

Brandon Haye

I have played fantasy football since I was in high school back in 2002 but now I get to officially write about it. I love all fantasy formats but Devy has a special place in my heart since I love college football so much! I have always followed the Michigan Wolverines. Go Blue! But now I look at the whole college landscape. I love two integrate both film watching and the analytics because you have to look at both to see the whole story!
