Garmin Fénix 7: The new series of watches offers extreme battery life and, for the first time in history, touch control (2024)

Garmin has prepared a new generation of their most popular and now legendary Fénix model for the beginning of the year. We are specifically talking about the Fénix 7 series, which has received a number of interesting upgrades. The biggest innovation that the watch brings is the improved Power Sphire solar glass, which allows you to recharge the battery of the watch from the sun's rays, as well as touch control for the first time in the history of the Fénix model. At the outset, however, it is appropriate to add that you do not have to worry about anything - control is available both using the touch screen and, as with previous generations, using physical buttons. Of course, sports lovers won't miss out on control while wearing gloves or while swimming.

The design of the watch has not changed fundamentally and it is still the concept of a classic round watch with side pushers. Of course, there are replaceable movements, thanks to which you can turn your sports watch into an elegant model in seconds, which you don't have to be ashamed to wear with a suit. There are models ranging in size from 42mm to 51mm, with the largest 51mm watch offering a 1,4″ display with a resolution of 280×280 pixels, while the smallest is a 1,2″ display with a resolution of 240×240 pixels. The weight of the largest model is only 89 grams, and for the smallest model it is only 58 grams, which makes it suitable even for women's wrists.

Garmin Fénix 7 battery life

The top-of-the-line solar charging range can offer up to 28 days of battery life when using smart features without recharging from the sun, and an incredible 37 days if exposed to sunlight for at least three hours a day. If, for some mysterious reason, you were to buy a Garmin Fénix 7 watch and only want to use it for telling the time, then it will last more than a year on a solar charge. If you use GPS then you get 89 hours without solar charging and 122 hours with it. If you combine GPS, Glonass and Galileo, play music and use heart rate and blood oxygenation, then the watch will last you 16 hours, which is an excellent time considering you will be using 100% of what the watch has to offer all at once.

As for the new control, you can use the touch screen or classic buttons. Of course, you have the option to combine both or block the display or buttons. Among the sensors that the watch offers, you will find GPS, Glonass and Galileo, with the possibility of combining all three systems at once for multi-frequency location sensing. There is also a heart rate sensor, barometric altimeter, digital compass, accelerometer, gyroscope, blood oxygen saturation sensor, pulse oximeter, thermometer and or barometer. Of course, just like the previous generation, the watch offers all conceivable measurements during sports activities, of which there are countless available.

Thanks to the new processing of the watch body, Garmin meets the American military standards for resistance to temperatures, shocks and water resistance. Of course, there is compatibility with both iOS and Android, as well as with all the accessories that previous generations of Garmin Fénix could work with, starting with a chest belt and ending with, for example, an external thermometer or cadence sensor for cycling.
