How can I find out what the payoff amount on a loan is? (2024)

It depends on the type of loan.

If your loan is a mortgage (that is, a consumer loan that is secured by a dwelling) and you request your payoff statement in writing (or in another manner specified by your creditor or servicer), your creditor or servicer must provide you with an accurate statement of the total outstanding balance that would be required to pay your obligation in full as of a specified date.

For other types of loans, such as credit cards and auto loans, you may be able to obtain a payoff quote from the bank's website. You can also try contacting the bank's loan department for this information.
