Get to Know Us: Rachael, Executive Assistant"When I was in college, I hated studying. I would do anything I could to avoid it. One of my professors told me that if I listened to classical music while studying, it would make it feel less like a chore and that I would retain studied information on a deeper, lasting level. But no matter how hard I tried, I found classical music to be distracting. I would find my mind wandering to places and things other than what I was trying to study, and I would eventually stop studying. It took a while but eventually, I found that if I picked therightmusic (in my case, country) studying really wasn't that bad. In my work now, having background noise, whether it be music, the news, or the chatter in a coffee shop helps me to focus. Knowing I'm not "alone" at that moment enables me to stay out of my thoughts and focus on the task at hand."Sometimes if we keep looking beyond what wethink we know, we find it's not always a one-size-fits-all solution!Do you have any quirks that help you focus and get work done?

Sometimes, as leaders, we'll mention an idea, topic, or concern to our team and then wonder why we don't achieve it. In this week's blog, Liz shares how repeating ourselves can cement those ideas with our team. Read her thoughts here: https://lnkd.in/eCnWc8kd

Session 3 in the Foundations for Resilience program is centered around the idea that one’s feelings are their problem. This means that it’s up to us to manage, process, and decide how to harness the wisdom from our emotions. If leaders can learn to navigate their feelings cycles productively, they will gain wisdom and become more resilient. When you have strong feelings, what do you do to process them in order to extract helpful learning?

In last week's INSIGHTS blog, Liz shared that a good leader doesn't mean having to choose between being the "bad" guy or the "good" guy, it's about finding the balance between the two.

Get to Know Us - Meet Sana 😀 "Recently, a friend of mine gifted me aChicago Cafe Passportand it's been such a fun way to explore the city's coffee shops and bakeries. No matter where I find myself—whether in the suburbs nearby, in the U.S., or across the world—I absolutely love discovering unique coffee spots and delicious bakeries (none of those basic sweets for me!). In the picture below is an ube latte—it was perfect with just the right balance of sweetness and subtle hints of coconut and vanilla. Delish! In my opinion, finding places like these is always an adventure worth embarking on, even during my travels in Morocco."If you're planning a trip to Chicago, feel free to reach out to Sana to learn about her top three bakery or coffee shop recommendations!

As a leader, have you ever found yourself in a situation where you need to deliver, possibly uncomfortable, feedback to a team member? For many of us there is a struggle between giving clear and concise feedback while also taking into account the feelings of our team members. In this week's INSIGHTS blog, Liz shares how it is possible to marry the two in a way that accomplishes your ultimate goal. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/dnz_sKba

In Session 2 of our Foundations for Resilience program, we dig into the idea of being your own best friend. It may sound cheesy, but our ability to be kind to ourselves and deepen our self-trust is hugely important to our ability to hold “creative tension” - the gap between where we are today and the future state we want to create. If we can’t hold that sometimes-paradoxical tension, we undermine our ability to create change.

Get to Know Us - Meet Liz 😀 "We recently switched to an all-electric 'fleet' for our household. Electric cars are simply more FUN to drive (although I do miss a stick shift) and now, gas-powered cars seem loud and stinky. Road trips certainly have had a learning curve (ask me about our recent VT trip!) but the once-in-awhile inconvenience is worth the upside and the alignment with our values to do our part for lowering carbon emissions."Living ourvalues isn't always convenient, but there is plenty of upside. Ask Liz about owning an electric car, if you're curious!
