SARATOGA, Fla. (AP) David Lawrence, 84, founder and editor of U. S. News World Report, died Sunday. His journalism career spanned 60 years and 11 presidential a minis trations.

At one time his column of conservative views La Lawrence David appeared in 300 newspapers across the country. Mr. Lawrence's column has appeared in the Johnson City Press Chronicle's editorial pages for almost 22 years. Lawrence suffered an apparent heart attack a and was dead on arrival at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, a spokesman for the magazine said in Washington. Lawrence began his journalism career at the age of 14, and at one time his columns appeared in 300 newspapers across the country.

His news career spanned 60 years and 11 presidential administrations. A spokesman said funeral arrangements were incomplete. The veteran Washington correspondent pioneered The United States Daily. a newspaper devoted solely to the activities of government. In 1933 the daily was superseded by a weekly.

The United States News, which carried an editorial Lawrence page with his founded "World an international affairs magazine. in 1946 and a year later the two publications were merged. As editor. Lawrence continued writing a weekly editorial which reached more than one million readers. As one of radio's first political commentators.

Lawrence gave a weekly 15-minute broadcast entitled "Our Government" on Sunday night from 1929 to 1933 He was the author of several books. including "'The True Story of Woodrow Wilson."
