Liverpool put themselves back into the Premier League title race with a 4-2 win over Tottenham at Anfield.

The Reds played with freedom and raced into a 4-0 lead before Spurs got two back to make the scoreline look a bit more respectable.

Mohamed Salah opened the scoring when he headed home Cody Gakpo's brilliant cross.

Andrew Robertson doubled the lead just before half time to give Jurgen Klopp's side a commanding lead.

Gakpo made it 3-0 with a great header before Harvey Elliott rifled in a stunning fourth.

Ange Postecoglou introduced Richarlison from the bench, and he converted Brennan Johnson's low cross.

He then set up Heung-min Son to ensure it was nervy last few minutes at Anfield for the Reds, who now trail Arsenal by five points.

    Villa lose

Well, suddenly, Tottenham's top-four hopes aren't all over as Aston Villa have just lost 1-0 to out-of-form Brighton away from home.

Spurs are now seven points behind the Villans, with two games in hand on Unai Emery's men.

Liverpool vs Tottenham - Pre-match facts

    • Liverpool have conceded the opening goal in 16 Premier League games this season; not since 2004-05 under Rafael Benítez (20) have they done so more in a single campaign. Indeed, the Reds have conceded the opener in four of their last five matches at Anfield in the competition – as many as their previous 22 beforehand.
    • This will be Liverpool’s 18th Sunday Premier League game this season, only playing more in a single campaign in 2012-13 (20). They’ve won nine of their 17 so far this term (D6 L2), only winning more in 2013-14 (11/15) and 2018-19 (10/13).
    • Liverpool have lost their last two home games in all competitions, as many as in their previous 57 combined. They’ve failed to score in both defeats, last losing three in a row without reply at Anfield in March 2021.

    O'Hara concerned

Despite Tottenham's strong performance in the Premier League this season, Jamie O'Hara is worried that Ange Postecoglou has been worked out.

    Checking in

Liverpool players arrived at Anfield a short time ago, and they look up for it.

Plus, it's good to see Conor Bradley back from injury quicker than expected.

    He's on the bench.

    Tottenham set-piece woes

It would be fair to say that Tottenham have enjoyed a strong season under Ange Postecoglou.

However, they have a key weakness, which has been exploited time and time again.

Tottenham have conceded 22 goals from set-pieces this year, including penalties.

This is a large percentage of their goals conceded and something needs to be done about it because it could cost them European football if it continues.

    Liverpool vs Tottenham: Team news

So, despite having a huge on-field argument with Jurgen Klopp last week, Mohamed Salah starts for the Reds.

He's the only change from the 2-2 draw with West Ham last week and comes in for Ryan Gravenberch.

Meanwhile, Ange Postecoglou has elected to leave James Maddison on the bench again, and he's joined by Richarlison, who is replaced by Rodrigo Bentancur.

    Liverpool vs Tottenham: Pre-match facts

    • Liverpool have lost just one of their last 29 home Premier League matches against Tottenham Hotspur (W19 D9), a 2-0 defeat in May 2011.
    • Tottenham Hotspur are looking to complete their first league double over Liverpool since the 2010-11 season, beating two different Reds managers that season (Roy Hodgson and Kenny Dalglish). Their last league double over the Reds beating the same manager twice was in Dalglish’s first spell in 1986-87.
    • Liverpool (3) v Tottenham (3) has provided six 90th-minute winners in the Premier League, the most of any fixture in the competition’s history. Indeed, both of the last two league meetings between the two sides have been won courtesy of a 90th-minute winner for the home team.

The Reds will be without Thiago Alcantara, Joel Matip and Conor Bradley.

Diogo Jota also isn't expected to be available.

But bar those, Jurgen Klopp has a full squad to choose from.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have plenty of issue in defence.

Destiny Udogie, Ryan Sessegnon and Ben Davies are all out.

Timo Werner is also injured with a hamstring problem.

    Enormous

Hello, and welcome to talkSPORT.com's live coverage of Liverpool's home game against Tottenham.

If the Reds are to compete for the Premier League title, they must win this match.

It's also Jurgen Klopp's second-last game at Anfield before his departure.

Meanwhile, Spurs need a win as well.

Three consecutive defeats have seen their Champions League hopes go up in smoke, and they are now looking nervously behind them at Newcastle, Chelsea and Manchester United.

However, a win at Anfield should ensure they finish fifth and get Europa League football.
