In "Days? Or Ages? The Genesis Question: A Layman Looks at Creation's Calendar", JerryHarmon offers a fresh look at a centuries-old debate. Does the Bible say creation wasaccomplished within one week of time beginning a few thousand years ago, or over countlessmillennia beginning millions or even billions of years in the distant past? Opinions abound frombiblical scholars, scientists and laypeople alike, and achieving a clear perspective can be difficultat best. "Days? Or Ages? The Genesis Question" summarizes a thorough examination of Genesis1, including relevant passages from other parts of the Bible, all in plain, straightforwardlanguage. Rather than begin with assumptions, as so many opinions do, and from there select andinterpret scriptures in such a way as to support a given view; this work instead first provides adetailed examination of what Scripture itself appears to reveal-all Scripture that bears on theissue-and then examines what one might reasonably conclude. Although written by a layman, in"Days? Or Ages? The Genesis Question" Jerry draws from a wealth of scholarly works by someof the world's leading theologians and other learned professionals. Whatever one's opinion mightbe, this thesis will be informative reading and a significant resource to help clear away some ofthe clouds of mystery surrounding one of the Bible's most challenging subjects -- is the Genesiscreation story literal or metaphorical? While very highly recommended for church, seminary, community, and academic library Christian Studies collections, it should be noted for allmembers of the Christian community that "Days? Or Ages? The Genesis Question" is alsoavailable in a paperback edition (9781512726633, $17.95) and in a Kindle format ($6.99).

Rex, plays a critical role in the health of the ecosystem. The predator kills the old, sick and the weak, keeping plant eater herds strong and free of disease.Too many herbivores would decimate the vegetation. These informal, easy dishes blendinternational flavors with approaches that take traditional recipes and revise them: thus, thetraditional rarebit receives a fresh take with a Blue Cheese, English Mustard and Onion Jamrecipe and the Scotch Egg and Indian Bhaji are melded into a hybrid renegade recipe called TheScotch Bhaji. Color photos abound, measurements are provided in Imperial and metric, anddishes pair the familiarity of comfort food with new innovations for maximum appeal. There are so many salad cookbooks already on the market that one mightwonder what sets this one apart from the rest; but a glance at the color photos throughout provesthat these dishes feature not just unusual pairings of ingredients, but especially captivatingresults. From a 'Massaged Kale Salad with Oranges & Cranberries' to a colorful Carrot, Fig &Blueberry Salad with almonds and spinach, these are color and flavor combinations not seenelsewhere, and offer many unique variations that imbibe new life into the salad idea. Jane Baxter& John Vincent's Leon: Happy Salads (9781840917185, $19.99) doesn't contain quite thevibrancy and eye-popping color of Nourish; but it packs in some 100 recipes for all kinds ofsalads, from traditional fare to lunchbox creations and hearty fare that can make for an entiremeal; and it also comes with full-page color photos with salads displayed in particularly-niceserving dishes as it explores such fare as Polish Herring & Potato Salad, a Belgian Steak Salad, and Black Riced Peas. A prizewinning scholar and academician, Mark Edmundson is on the faculty of the University ofVirginia. In "Why Write?: A Master Class on the Art of Writing and Why it Matters", ProfessorEdmundson tackles the critically important question that every writer, author, and noveliststruggles with at some point in their literary careers in this day and age. Why write when itsometimes feels that so few people really read -- read as if their lives might be changed by whatthey're reading? Why write, when the world wants to be informed, not enlightened; to beentertained, not inspired? Writing is backbreaking, mindbreaking, lonely work. So why do it?Because writing, as Professor Edmundson explains, is one of the greatest human goods. Writingteaches us to think; it can bring our minds to birth. And once we're at home with words, there arefew more pleasurable human activities than writing. Because this is something ProfessorEdmundson believes everyone ought to know he has created an effectively persuasive defense inbehalf of essential reading (both practical and inspiring) for anyone who yearns to be a writer, anyone who simply needs to know how to get an idea across, and anyone else who findsthemselves having or wanting to put pen to paper. Award-winning nonfiction writer William Miller presents Decision at Tom's Brook: George Custer, Thomas Rosser, and the Joy of the Fight, a close study of The Battle of Tom's Brook, during the American Civil War. The focus is on two opposing military leaders, who had once been friends during their teenage years at West Point. George A. Custer's allegiance lay with the Union, while Thomas L. Rosser was loyal to the Confederacy. In the fall of 1864, General Phil Sheridan vowed to turn the breadbasket Shenandoah Valley into "a desert", and set Custer to the task. Rosser was ordered to stop Custer, and harassed the Federals for three days until October 9, when each ambitious leader sought to seize an advantage over the other in the open fields above Tom's Brook. Their clash would reveal the capabilities of Custer's cavalry, and directly affect the overall campaign in Shenandoah Valley. Enhanced with black-and-white photographs on almost every page, Decision at Tom's Brook draws upon research into primary source documents, yet distills its scholarship into accessible, reader-friendly prose.
