  1. Goodbye!

And with that, we'll leave it there.

We'll be back tomorrow with a very quiet day compared with today.

Just the one Premier League game to bring you, Nottingham Forest v Brentford from 14:00 BST.

The new Women's Super League season also begins tomorrow from 12:30 BST so we've still got plenty of football to bring you through the day.

    See you then!

  2. Post update

What a day we've had. Here's a reminder of what's happened on a packed Saturday of Premier League action.

    • Aston Villa started the day with a 6-1 thrashing of Brighton
    • Arsenal cruised past Bournemouth 4-0
    • Wolves inflicted Manchester City's first defeat of the season, a 2-1 win
    • Manchester United suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Crystal Palace
    • Luton stunned Everton 2-1, claiming their first Premier League victory
    • Newcastle comfortably beat Burnley 2-1
    • West Ham secured a comfortable 2-0 win over Sheffield United
    • And we had that late late drama at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as Liverpool's Joel Matip scored a 96th minute own goal to hand Spurs a 2-1 win

I don't know about you but I need an early night after all that!

Joe D: So PGMOL have admitted the Liverpool goal was onside and they made a mistake. 2 questions though - where were the lines, and why was it done so quick - it normally takes minutes with multiple replays.

Craig: VAR was suppose to make the game less controversial and more clear cut. The experiment has failed. Get rid of it.

Andy: How many more times are PGMOL going to apologise before something changes.

  5. 'They didn't do it on purpose, but mistakes still happen'

    FT: Tottenham 2-1 Liverpool

Premier League: Matip injury-time own goal gives Spurs win over nine-man Liverpool - reaction (2)

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking to Match of the Day: "People might think because of the late goal for Tottenham we didn't get anything out of this game but that is not true. We didn't get a result but I learned so much about my boys today, absolutely proud. The mentality was second to none.

"With eight outfield players it is difficult, we still had moments but not as dangerous as before. So many things happened today that was not going our way and that is really difficult when you get nothing out of it. So close."

On VAR and other decisions in the game: "Nothing changed for us. I don't need that, I saw it, I know whoever made the mistake didn't do on it purpose. It will not help.

"How can Jota in this game go off the pitch with two yellow cards, the first he barely touched him and for sure not his fault.

"That is what is the problem. We have so many things. When did you last hear a game with 11 v 9? And we were close to 11v 8! There were no horrible fouls.

"We were not kicking players or whatever. The boys made a super intense game of it, it is crazy how hard we fought. In the end we got nothing. The result is gone but the performance will stay with me forever. I loved our attitude and our desire."

More on VAR decisions: "They didn't do it on purpose, I know that, but mistakes still happen. If we want to talk about it do it properly and not with creating headlines with emotional managers."

  7. Post update

So, the PGMOL admit that the decision to disallow Luis Diaz's goal for offside was wrong.

Just to remind you, that goal came after Curtis Jones had been sent off but before Son Heung-Min scored to give Spurs a 1-0 lead.

Many of you pointed out at the time that the lines weren't drawn and that it did in fact look onside.

  8. BreakingPGMOL admit Luis Diaz offside decision was wrong

A statement from the refereeing body, the PGMOL:

PGMOL acknowledge a significant human error occurredduring the first half of Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool.

The goal by Luiz Diaz was disallowed for offside by theon-field team of match officials. This was a clear and obvious factual errorand should have resulted in the goal being awarded through VAR intervention, however, the VAR failed to intervene.

PGMOL will conduct a full review into thecirc*mstances which led to the error.

  9. 'I'm delighted for the football club'

    FT: Everton 1-2 Luton Town

Premier League: Matip injury-time own goal gives Spurs win over nine-man Liverpool - reaction (3)

    Luton Town

Luton Town boss Rob Edwards speaking to BBC MOTD: "I'm very proud of everyone and delighted for the football club. It's off our backs now.

"It was a little while coming but we believed it was coming and we were improving in every game. It was a difficult game for us but let's not get carried away.

"It's nice to score from set-pieces because we worked hard from them and I thought we were a threat. I had a conversation with the players and I was really pleased because we had to make some changes at the back.

"The commitment from the players has never been in question. I saw another level of performance again and I want to keep that going.

"We showed a lot of that last season to get to where we are. Every single game it's non-negotiable. But I'm seeing a team that's learning and evolving all the time. I like the journey we're on at the moment and we're progressing.

"A real threat. I was delighted for Alfie Doughty, it's nice. He needs to keep his feet on the floor and working hard."

  10. 'Really pleasing performance'

FT: West Ham 2-0 Sheff Utd

West Ham midfielder James Ward-Prowse to Premier League Productions:

"It was a really pleasing performance in a tough game. The two early goals helped us and we were a little bit disappointed in the second half that we couldn't really build on that.

"Everybody at the club has been incredibly welcoming to me and made me feel at home straight away and allowed me to do my thing on the pitch and the fans have been terrific.

"We've had a good start and a good few performances against some of the top teams so it's only positive and lots to build on."

  11. Cunha's brain 'fried' in training

    FT: Wolves 2-1 Man City

Premier League: Matip injury-time own goal gives Spurs win over nine-man Liverpool - reaction (5)

    Simon Stone

    BBC Sport at Molineux

Wolves manager Gary O'Neil explained earlier the tactical plan that led to his side's surprise victory against Manchester City at Molineux this afternoon.

It involved a lot of work for the forward players.

"We worked hard for three days," he said. "The game looked as we prepped for, we managed to force the ball into areas where we wanted it.

"The thing about Manchester City is that you know where everyone is going to be. We needed Matheus Cunha screening the pivot.

"In training Icould see his brain starting to fry after six minutes because so much of his work was going to be defensive."

  12. 'VAR should be clear and obvious'

    FT: Tottenham 2-1 Liverpool

Premier League: Matip injury-time own goal gives Spurs win over nine-man Liverpool - reaction (6)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk speaking to Match of the Day: "Losing a game is hard anyway. If you look at the fight we showed, the defending we did, the togetherness – it was good to see. The manager has told us in the dressing room and for me as a captain it's good to see everyone working so hard and fighting for each other. To concede an own goal in the last two minutes of the game is cruel."

On what he will say to Joel Matip and how he will feel: "I know it's difficult as a central defender. If the ball is crossing with an ugly bounce it's always difficult to clear it. It went in and unfortunately that can happen. He's fine, he's a good friend of mine and I know he will be fine."

When asked if he is 'losing faith' in VAR: "I'm losing faith is difficult to say. The VAR should be absolutely clear and obvious with everything they're deciding on. I've seen the still back, I think on live TV there were no lines being shown. It's all a bit strange, I don't know who was in the VAR room and making that decision. It's not a good thing, it doesn't look well either. It is what it is, we lost."

When asked if you should never get offside wrong: "You're absolutely right. [It's] tough."

  13. 'Perfect reaction from Hammers'

FT: West Ham 2-0 Sheff Utd

Premier League: Matip injury-time own goal gives Spurs win over nine-man Liverpool - reaction (7)

    West Ham United

West Ham goalscorer Jarrod Bowen to BBC Match of the Day:

"The last couple of results we've had, we've been disappointed that we've lost the two games - and today was a difficult game. Many people saw their result last week and we knew it wasn't going to be as easy as that and that there would be a reaction from them.

"So it was important to get the first goal and then we got the second and then it was about defending our lead. Yes we wanted to score more and put the game to bed but two goals and a clean sheet is the perfect reaction."

On the first-time finish for his goal: "It's just instinct, when you get in the box you know where the goal is and it's about hitting the target well with a good finish and I managed to do that.

"I'm just trying to do what I've been trying to do in the last three and a half years since I was brought here - I want to score goals, I've never been shy about that and scoring goals for this club never gets any less special."

On David Moyes reaching 900 league games as a manager: "It's a massive achievement for the manager - he loves football, he loves being a manager. He's put his stamp on us this season - last season was disappointing domestically in what we have achieved so this season was about starting strong and we've done that, picked up some really good victories.

"We've got two more games now going into the international break and we want two more wins from those games - those are the standards we've set and the demands we want to reach."

  15. 'It leaves an impression on everyone involved'

    FT: Tottenham 2-1 Liverpool

Premier League: Matip injury-time own goal gives Spurs win over nine-man Liverpool - reaction (8)

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou speaking to Match of the Day: "Particularly the manner in which it happened, it leaves the real impact and impression on everyone involved. Another challenge for us today. We had to cope with a fair few things and show a different side of our game today. Second half I thought we were really good."

On having to play against nine men: "It doesn't make it easy. They've been top for a while, have a top mentality and are still dangerous on the counter-attack.

"We just tried to overdo things, rush things, do things individually and let them in the game in the first half. In the second half we were consistent with our pressure."

On if the own goal was unfortunate for Joel Matip: "We've had a couple ourselves this year so that's part of football. We probably didn't get into those areas enough, that last cross I thought was a quality delivery into an area no defender likes to deal with."

On the disallowed Luis Diaz goal: "That's not my decision, that's their [the referees'] decision. If they've got it wrong I'm sure there will be an explanation and Liverpool will be disappointed with it but that's nothing to do with me or us."

On the momentum behind Spurs with the support at the moment: "It's important. We're still a team in its infancy in terms of the way we want to play, the age and experience of the group. The support behind us at home the last two games had been unbelievable, the energy they've given the lads. We're going to need that going forward, we'll have more challenges and particularly having the support behind us at home will make a big difference."

  16. 'We found a way to get over the line'

    FT: Everton 1-2 Luton Town

Premier League: Matip injury-time own goal gives Spurs win over nine-man Liverpool - reaction (9)

    Luton Town

Luton Town manager Rob Edwards speaking to PLP: "We're obviously very pleased but it is what it is. It's nice to get that off our backs now. I'm incredible pleased and proud of the boys and delighted for the supporters. They got to see a win and we were able to enjoy that with them but we go again on Tuesday.

"I thought the players were brilliant. They were brave, aggressive and pressed hard in the first half. Obviously going two goals up was a little bit of new territory for us.

"In the second half we showed spirit and maybe rode our luck a little bit once or twice but you'll do that away from home. We showed a lot of fight and spirit.

"It's difficult to win any Premier League game but we found a way to get over the line and that will hopefully build a lot of confidence and belief in the group.

"We work on set-pieces a lot. It's a big threat for us. Today we got the reward when we were maybe due a little bit in previous games.

"If you watch where we were in the first game of the season to where we are now, we have shown improvement and we have adapted. We want to keep that momentum but recognise we will only get points from the game if we do the basics well."

  17. 'Crazy decisions'

    FT: Tottenham 2-1 Liverpool

Premier League: Matip injury-time own goal gives Spurs win over nine-man Liverpool - reaction (10)

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, speaking to Sky Sports: "I was never more proud of the team than today. I never saw a game like this with the most unfair circ*mstances, crazy decisions.

"We scored an own goal, that is really tough to take but I am really proud. The first red card, Curtis steps on the ball and goes over. Not a bad tackle.

"It looks different in slow motion. He steps full throttle on the ball and goes over the ball. That is unlucky.

"[For Diogo Jota] first yellow was not a yellow. Then he gets a second and to defend with eight outfield players is tricky.

"You want to build something you need players with mentality and I saw them today, they fought. Pretty special tonight."

On Joel Matip's own goal: "It looks a bit like destiny or someone had to put the foot there. Joel defended outstandingly well today. He put the foot out and it goes in the goal.

"There are worse things in life. That is how it is."

On Liverpool having a goal ruled out for offside: "The offside goal. That is not offside when you see it, they drew their lines wrong.

"The ball is between Mo's legs, they drew the line wrong and didn't judge the moment when Mo passed the ball right.

"It is so tough to deal with it."

  18. 'We believe that in hard work there will be success'

    FT: Newcastle 2-0 Burnley

Premier League: Matip injury-time own goal gives Spurs win over nine-man Liverpool - reaction (11)

    Burnley

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany speaking to Match of the Day: "They took the opportunity. If you strike it that well [for Miguel Almiron's opener' and itgoes top corner then fair play. It’s why you have quality players.

"From ourside we have to take our moments. You don’t go to St James’ Park and get 15 or 20chances, but we had enough. As good as the start was, even then we stayed inthe game for a very long time and in the end it’s a mistake. In the end it’s aboutresults but performances bring results. The starting fixtures are tough so that means we will recover the fixtures thatare better for us maybe later."

On the upcoming game against Luton: "For me the key thing is when you have a lot of newplayers you are looking for a team performance. In the end when you play in aleague where a lot of teams are better than you, you have to rely on the teamto get results. That’s what we worked on and we are starting to see that in thelast four or five games. It will be the same for Luton as us, both teams willwant to get the points.

"We really work hard and we believe that in that hard workthere will be success. We saw the first eight games and knew it could be tough, but this team has shown resilience so many times and we look forward to thefuture and games we can have a positive outcome in."
