Promised Destiny #1

GENRE: Historical Romance/Suspense (Christian)

Thunderous applause extinguishes her dream and ignites her worst nightmare.

Clara Reinhold’s father publicly pledges her hand to Georg Wolff. His character and arrogance match the stench of his odious cigars, but his lineage offers a suitable alliance for the station of a baron’s daughter.

A charades clue years earlier turned friendship into a promise of forbidden marriage between Clara and family carriage driver, Daniel Becker.

If she refuses Georg and follows her heart, her father disowns her and she loses everything—her loving family, dear friends, and the only home she’s known.

As a tangled web of scandal and deceit unwinds, hidden motives and illicit activities emerge among an unsuspecting ring of players changing everything but nobility’s rules.

How will justice be served?

How will Clara and Daniel overcome obstacles to claim a future beyond that of a charade?

Hi Lynn! Welcome to the blog!

Tangled Promises - Lynn U Watson - Giveaway - Reading Is My SuperPower (8)

Lynn: Today I’ll have to say apples. Apples are Clara’s (my MC) family business. Her father is the Baron of their Gut Apfelhof community. Apfel is German for apple.

Carrie: I love apples!

Lynn: The tuxedo feline, Jasmine, who claims to be “princess of our palace” might retaliate if I said dogs.

Carrie: haha fair enough

Lynn: Some of my sweetest childhood memories come from hours upon hours spent playing Canasta (card game) with my grandmother. 😊

Carrie: aww i love memories like that!

Lynn: I love to hold a real book, but my aging eyes are so very grateful for the invention of the Kindle Paperwhite.

Carrie: same! lol

Q: Around here I like to say that reading is my superpower. If YOU had a superpower, what would it be?

Lynn: Foot Washing – not sure how to say that without sounding weird, but I’ll try. Our pastor once asked from the pulpit, “When was the last time Jesus asked you to wash someone’s feet?” My response: almost every day. As a reflexologist I’m privileged to sit at the feet of many individuals and hold their feet in my hands. I have the opportunity to pray for them and to offer touch therapy (think way better than a great foot massage). Often clients comment on my “magic fingers.” I see nothing magic about it. I’m blessed to have a learned skill set coupled with a gifting from God to use my hands and my prayers to bless others—all to His glory.

Carrie: I love this answer so much, Lynn! What a special gift ♥

Q: Who is your favorite book character from childhood?

Lynn: Heidi. Johanna Spyri painted the Swiss Alps as a perfectly beautiful place to live. I love how Heidi’s kindness and her faith won over her grandfather’s heart. Having been published the year Tangled Promises is set, Heidi found her way onto its pages.

Carrie: oh yay! how fun!

Q: What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever Googled while researching a book?

Lynn: This question cracked me up. In Tangled Promises some of the characters make a trip to Paris. On a rabbit trail of research through Paris in the 19th century I learned about sanitation in the city. Thankfully, finally by the late 1800s this wasn’t the disgusting plight that had existed in their recent past.

Carrie: oh boy, things we take for granted in our modern day worlds!

Q: Did you have the whole plot outlined before you started writing Tangled Promises, or did you let the characters dictate what came next?

Lynn: I had a mere idea of where this book would go. Most of the time the eclectic collection of characters showed me what was coming next. I choose to believe their ideas outshined mine.

Carrie: that process fascinates me

Q: Some authors like to hide little things in their stories. Is there anything you have hidden in Tangled Promises?

Lynn: Clara (MC) loves sunflowers. A trail of bright blooms winds through Tangled Promises and Frayed Promises. Expect them to have significance in book 3, Planted Promises, as well. They’re in every book but not exactly hidden.

Carrie: such cheery flowers!

Q:What is one of your favorite quotes from Tangled Promises & why do you love it?

Lynn: “Like a fairytale, my lovely lady, we’ll write our story with a happy ending.”

As the story unfolds Clara compares herself to Little Red Riding Hood—her destiny to be eaten by the Big Bad Georg Wolff. With Clara and Daniel’s story of love, star-crossed from the beginning, Romeo and Juliet carries a painful reminder of what couldn’t be. I love Daniel’s optimism for their future to be a fairytale come true despite the odds.

Carrie: what a great quote for this fairytale fan!

Thank you so much for taking time to talk with me! 🙂 Before we say goodbye for today, tell us what‘s coming up next for you.

Lynn: The deadline to deliver Book 2 in the Promised Destiny series to my publisher is just two weeks away. Launching Tangled Promises and completing Frayed Promises simultaneously, I haven’t contemplated too far beyond that. I can say Book 3, Planted Promises, will be a dual timeline between the late 19th century and current day.
