He was raised in Colraine, Mass. and Newington, NH. He attended NH schools and graduated with the Portsmouth High School Class of1931 while living in Newington. Additionally, he graduated from the New England Aircraft School in Boston. Burney was draftedinto the U.S.
Army in 1941, and served inthe Signal Corps, being promoted to Captain and serving in the South Pacific until being honorably discharged when World War II was over in 1945. Before going overseas, he was married to Helen Cannon inSan Antonio, Texas on April 1, 1944. After the war, he moved to Baltimore, towork for the Glenn L. Martin Company(now known as Lockheed Martin). While there, he earned a B.S.
in Aeronautical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. His job took him to Denver, for several years during the 1970 a and then Slidell, where he retired in 1983.In his retirement, Burney enjoyed playing bridge, gardening, bird watching, cribbage and star gazing with his newtelescope. He was pre-deceased by his wife of 53 years, Helen (Cannon) Josselyn, in 1997; as well as his sister Dorothy Josselyn in 1996. He is survived by his son, Roy L. Josselyn of Dover; and two grandsons, John B.
Josselyn of Los Angeles, and Eric C. Josselyn of Bethesda, Md.Extend- ed family includes Joni Haynes, as well as Wayne and Kelsi McCarthy, all of Portsmouth.
