ARREST MADE BY COPS OF ALLEGED KILLER OF DENZEL JOHNSON

In reference to the homicide that occurred in the Western District on May 25, 2024, investigators have arrested 22-year-old Korey Hopson of Baltimore.

Investigators learned Hopson killed 17-year-old Denzel Johnson and injured a 15-year-old male, in a shooting in the 900 block of North Dukeland Street.

On May 25, 2024, Korey Hopson was arrested in the 3900 block of Stokes Road after attempting to elude officers through a wooded area. Detectives transported Hopson to the Central Booking Intake Facility where he has been charged with Murder and conspiracy in the first & second degree, attempted murder in the first and second, and assault

TEEN SHOT DEAD ON NORTH DUKELAND STREET, ANOTHER ONLY WINGED

Baltimore City Police report that on May 25, 2024, at around 3:42 p.m., officers responded to the 900 block of North Dukeland Street to investigate a ShotSpotter alert.
Upon arrival, officers observed a 17-year-old male suffering from a fatal gunshot wound. Upon further canvassing, officers located a 15-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound. Both victims were transported to an area hospital where the 17-year-old male was pronounced deceased and the 15-year-old is being treated for his injury.
Homicide detectives responded and assumed control over this investigation.

Say it ain’t so, guns wound people…

On May 25, 2024, at approximately 12:10 p.m., Southwest District patrol officers responded to the 2200 block of Penrose Street for a report of a discharge of a firearm, which apparently is illegal in the crime-infested Paradise of Baltimore.

Once there, officers located a 22-year-old male suffering from an apparent non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Medics responded to the location and transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment.

Louisa County Sheriff Detectives Investigate Father and Son Drowning at Lake Anna

LOUISA COUNTY, VA – The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office reports that officers are currently investigating the drowning of a reported father (42-year-old male) and son (14-year-old male) that occurred on Lake Anna.

Louisa deputies and other emergency crews responded to Lake Anna in the area of Carrs Bridge Rd at approximately 1:10 PM on Saturday, May 25, 2024, for a reported child drowning. While en route deputies were advised that the father of the child had attempted to locate/rescue his son. It was reported that witnesses observed the father struggling, just before losing sight of him as well. Several people went into the water in an attempt to locate them but were unsuccessful.

LCSO Marine Units, Mineral Vol Fire, Lake Anna Vol Rescue, Department of Wildlife Resources, and Spotsylvania County Fire & EMS Dive Team divers helped with locating and recovering the bodies of the father and son, who were pronounced dead on the scene, and both are being transported to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Richmond for examination.

The victims in this tragedy were from out of state, and their names are being withheld, pending notification of next of kin. The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office does not suspect any type of foul play.

300+ Drivers Cited for Violating Virginia’s Hands-Free Law

RICHMOND – The summer travel season is off to a deadly start in Virginia, as preliminary data indicates 11 people were killed on Virginia’s roadways over the 2024 Memorial Day Holiday weekend, including two double-fatality crashes in Goochland and Henry Counties. The number is an uptick from the 2023 Memorial Day holiday, when nine people were killed on Virginia’s highways.**

The fatal crashes occurred in Craig, Dinwiddie, Fairfax, Franklin, Goochland, and Henry counties, as well as the cities of Hampton and Lynchburg. Two people were killed in a head-on collision that occurred in Goochland County on May 24, 2024. A single-vehicle crash in Henry County on May 25, 2024, claimed the lives of two people. There was one fatal motorcycle crash that occurred on May 26, 2024, in the City of Lynchburg. A pedestrian was killed in Fairfax County on May 24, 2024. There were two separate fatal crashes that occurred in Dinwiddie County during the four-day holiday statistical counting period.

“Our goal for every major holiday travel weekend is for there to be no fatal crashes on our highways,” said Colonel Gary T. Settle, Superintendent of Virginia State Police. “Eleven people is far too many lives lost. If this summer is going to be a safe one, drivers must watch their speed, buckle up, drive sober, and focus on the roads.”

As part of the nationwide, state-sponsored Operation C.A.R.E (Crash Awareness Reduction Effort), Virginia State Police had all available troopers and supervisors on patrol during the 2024 holiday weekend. During the statistical counting period, troopers cited over 3,500 drivers for speeding and over 1,400 drivers for reckless driving. Ninety-two drivers were arrested for Driving Under the Influence (DUI/DUID). Virginia state troopers also cited 303 drivers for violating the “hands-free” phone law.

Virginia is also participating in the annual Click It or Ticket seatbelt education and enforcement campaign. Over the holiday, state police issued 535 seatbelt violations and 112 child restraint citations.

Funds generated from summonses issued by Virginia State Police go directly to court fees and the state’s Literary Fund, which benefits public school construction, technology funding, and teacher retirement.
