An Advance Promotional Pressing of the Bruce Springsteen Album Born to Run

Columbia Records White Label, 1975. In original printed folding sleeve featuring script lettering. Some wear to album, interior sleeve folded at corner, light abrasions and wear to sleeve. Lacking red promo card and lyric sheet.

The third time was the charm when "The Boss," Bruce Springsteen, released his third album in 1975 to wide acclaim. His first two albums were not as successful as was hoped; for the third, in reaching back to his New Jersey roots, music's Everyman captivated listeners with his working-class lyrics and storytelling. The album features the E Street Band including famed saxophonist Clarence Clemons, and the multiple styles of music include R&B, pop rock, and more. Atlantic Magazine succinctly stated that the album "embodied the lost '70s – the tense, political, working-class rejection of an increasingly unequal society." For Springsteen, it was a life-changing event; he was on the verge of a nervous breakdown while creating the album and at one point questioned its release because of how much it revealed about him personally. As he later recalled, "I wanted to make the greatest rock record that I'd ever heard, and I wanted it to sound enormous and I wanted it to grab you by your throat and insist that you take that ride, insist that you pay attention, not to just the music, but just to life, to feeling alive, to being alive."

Provenance: The collection of Tom Donnarumma, a seasoned music industry professional. He served as the Executive Vice President of Sales at Sony Music Label Group and General Manager of Columbia Records Group. His 33-year successful career is marked by a wealth of experience and a history of success in the music business. Donnarumma's extensive career includes notable achievements, such as being named Sales Representative of the Year in 1989 and leading the New York Branch to earn the prestigious title of Distribution Branch of the Year in 1994. This item was obtained at the Sony building in Los Angeles.
