What Are Demons in Pathfinder?

Pathfinder: How to Become a Demonin Wrath of the Righteous (1)

Wrath of the Righteous pits the player and their companion against an army of Demons pouring from the World Wound to reap destruction and rain havoc down on any who would stand in their way, but what are Demons and where do they come from? In Pathfinder, Demons are creatures of great evil so foul and corrupted there is no hope for redemption.

Within the Abyss, Demons exist in a carefully constructed hierarchy that allows the most powerful among them to rise to the top and become dreaded Demon Lords. Demon Lords rule over individual layers of the Abyss, and the number in existence is unknown because, as other Demons strive to gain power through acts of evil and destruction, they rise and sometimes overthrow those who dared to block their ascension.

Because the Abyss is in a constant state of chaos where power is always changing hands as Demon Lords battle one another for supremacy, becoming a Demon inWrath of the Righteous and driving an army against other demons makes perfect sense. In the end, the last Demon standing will be the one who rises to power as all who remain are forced to bow before them.

Much likeits good-aligned counterpart the Angel, the Demon Mythic Path, is offered early in the game. The player's first opportunity to unlockit is in theShield Maze in Kenabres. Hosilla will summon a Demon the party must fight, and there is a demonic dialogue option that will launch the player onto the Demon Mythic Path.

If the player doesn't start it here, there is another opportunity to unlock the path. When leading the Crusade into the World Wound for the first time, there is a second chance to embrace demonic rage and start down the path to phenomenal power.

It is important to note that, because the Demon Mythic Path is considered evil, it may affect how the player's companions react to their choices and behaviors. Some of them, like Arueshalae, may even decide to leave the party because they simply cannot serve one who has no control over their own rage and lust for power.
