REMEMBRANCES KATHRYN IRENE HESTAND Kathryn Irene Hestand, 88, passed away June 9, 2014. A memorial service will be Saturday, June 28, at Park Lawn Funeral Home, 8251 Hill- crest Rd. Visitation service 3:00 PM. Her burial was June 14 at Memorial Park Cemetery. Kathryn was born October 7, 1925, in Warrensburg, MO.

She was pre- ceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Rev. Robert Hestand, in 1994, and her parents, Clarence and Mattie (Glass) Meredith. She leaves her daughters, Gwen Richards (Ronald) and Sharon Weinbrenner (Richard); sisters, Doris Ashworth (Don) and Joann Cross; grandchildren, Adam Richards (Wendy), Kris Miazga (Wally), Natalie Warner and Douglas Weinbrenner 10 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, and nephews. She resided in Grandview from 1940 until she moved to Ohio in 2007. She retired from Torotel Company in Grandview and was a member of the Grandview Assembly of God Church where she and Rob- ert founded and led the Senior Adult Golden Heirs Group for 10 years.

Louis gradu- ated from Knob Noster High School in 1944 and went on to serve in the Army during WWII in the Philippines. When he returned home, he at- tended Chillicothe Business College where he met his future wife, Pau- line Shore. Married in Lone Jack in 1949, they resided in Kansas City, MO, where he worked as a payroll auditor for an insurance company.

In 1956 he opened Raytown Rental, later starting Summit Rental in the Louis was a member of Raytown Christian Church, a 50 year member of Ararat Shrine Temple, Temple Gate Lodge, and of Scottish Rite since 1961. Known for his work ethic mechani- cal talent, he enjoyed reconditioning old construction equipment for re- sale and attending auctions. In 1946, she graduated from Harrisonville High School and was the valedictorian of her graduating class. She then attended Stephens College in Columbia, MO, where she majored in interior design, and then worked for Garbers Garmets, where she designed teenage clothing. She also enrolled in the 1950 Class of Stewardesses with Continental Air- lines, and flew for 8 years. From 1960-1983, she was married to Cecil Hunt, until his death. She worked for General Motors in Fairfax for 30 years, and then went to work for Dillards Dept.

He grew up in Stilwell, KS and graduated from Stilwell High School in 1956. While living in Stilwell he worked on his family farm. Don married Anna Men- doza on August 18, 1957 in Stilwell, KS. They lived in Stilwell until mov- ing to Olathe and then in 1974 they moved to Spring Hill.

Don worked for 17 years doing sod work for Meyers Turf in Olathe, then worked for 23 years for Johnson County doing road and bridge maintenance. He fixed lawn mowers for people and volunteered at the Spring Hill Fire Department for about 12 years. Don enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping. During his spare time he loved auctioneering and pulled Shetland Ponies as a hobby. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Colton Don Jenkins. He is survived by children: Curt (Kelly) Jenkins, Fontana, KS, Greg (Sally) Jenkins, Olathe, KS, Tammy (Steve) Polkey, Paola, KS, Rusty (Cathy) Jenkins, Bucyrus, KS and Mark (Michelle) Jenkins, Over- land Park, KS; 16 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and sister, Shir- ley Burke, Belton, MO. MARIE T. (PATTON) KELLER Marie Keller, 86, of Leawood, KS, passed away on June 19, 2014 at St. South Hospital. Marie was born on December 9, 1927 in Kansas City, MO to Lena and Salvatore Graziano. She was married to Dean Patton from 1947 to 1970.

They had two daughters, Anita and Janice. She was married to Charles Keller in 1999 until his death on June 4, 2014. Marie worked at Black and Veatch Engineers for 28 years. She was past presidents of The Cham- ber of Commerce of K.C. and the ABWA.

She was active with the American Royal and Saddle and Sirloin Club. Marie is survived by daughters Anita Mitchell of Bedford, TX and Janice (Dan) Kellerman of Lenexa, KS. Sisters Nina Graziano of Overland Park, KS and Virginia (Charles) Wingo of Georgetown, TX. McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Road, Kansas City, MO 64145 WALBERT DALE KENNEDY Walbert Dale Kennedy, aged 66, died Thursday, June 5, 2014, in his adopted home, Kansas City, Mis- souri. He was unmarried and died without issue. Kennedy enjoyed a 25-year career in graphic arts. A popular speaker and widely traveled, his most nota- ble position was as assistant editor of the Caribbean newspaper, The BVI Beacon, in the early 1990s.

He had worked for Western Typeset- ting Company and Uppercase Type- setting Company in Kansas City, Penta Systems International in Bal- timore and Lettergraphics in Mem- phis. He was a consultant on both the Penta and Quadex typesetting systems. After the collapse of the typeset- ting industry, he worked as a secre- tary, serving as senior secretary for the International Society for Phar- macoepidemiology from 1992 until 1997. The board of directors pre- sented him with a lifetime member- ship in that society in 1997. That same year he was nominated for a position on that board.

In 2005, con- sequent to a disabling stroke, he re- tired from Ark Animal Clinic in Kansas City, where he worked as receptionist. In 1965 he won an Illinois State Scholarship and a scholarship to Quincy College. Most importantly, he won a Moorman Foundation fellowship, the first undergraduate teaching fellowship in English awarded in the United States. He was graduated early from Quincy Senior High School in Quincy, Illinois, and attended Culver-Stockton Col- lege in Canton, Missouri. Later he at- tended the University of Missouri- Kansas City.

He had been a member of Mensa, and he often published poetry, technical articles and news- paper features and columns. First published by a Nashville newspaper when he was 10 years old, in 1966 he won the Tabard Club award for traditional poetry and served as poetry editor for The In- crescent, the literary magazine of Culver-Stockton College.

A Chicago syndicate published his first books on astrology in the early 1970s. In the late 1980s he served as a judge for an art contest to promote Deaf Awareness Week in Memphis. In 1996 he published a family history, The Families of Walbert Kennedy and Gwen Gibson. That same year, along with two first cousins, he es- tablished The Duck Families Associa- tion of North America, DUFANA. Walbert Harbon Kennedy and Ber- tha Gwendolyn Gibson Kennedy of Decatur County, Tennessee, were his parents.

Lucille was born October 15, 1934 in Tren- ton, Missouri to Almeda and Olen Overton.

Shortly after the death of her mother and father, Lucille went to live with her Aunt Eula and Uncle Burl. Lucy enjoyed a long and successful career with Southwestern Bell Tele- phone Company where she met the love of her life, Herbert Kimbrell. That young romance blossomed into a 60 year plus marriage. Sixty won- derful years that included a U.S. Army tour of duty in Germany with extensive European travel.

Later came many Ararat Shrine Motor Corp trips. Herb and Lucy established homes and community friends at Lake Lo- tawana, Missouri, Alpine, Colorado, and Green Valley, Arizona. Social gatherings abounded with food, friends, and family. She had a genu- ine way of conveying her love, concern and respect for all of those around her. Lucy loved spending time with her godson, Sheldon, of Alpine, Colorado and mother and father Melanie and Walter.

Another special guy in her life was Joey, her Toy Poodle. Left to honor and remember her love are her husband Herbert, sisters Laura (Del) Hart of Trenton, Mis- souri, Christine Hale of Kansas City and brother George McCullough of Maine. Lucille also leaves sisters-in- laws Helen Rea, Dorthy (Dick) Lewis, Virginia Kimbrell, Mary Ann Kimbrell, brother-in-law Larry (Shirley) Kim- brell, an extended family of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great- nephews. Preceding her in death was brother Don McCullough. She will be greatly missed by us all.

MARTIN ROBERT MODRICIN Bob passed away peacefully at home after a full and love-filled life. He was born and raised in the Strawberry Hill neighborhood of Kansas City, Kansas and later moved to Overland Park, Kansas. His many accomplishments in- cluded earning a degree in chiro- practics, but his passion was elec- tronics. He was a pioneer in the electronics industry and had a top secret government clearance. He was a competitive roller skate dancer, a Ham Radio Operator for over 60 years, taught dog obedi- ence training for more than 20 years and owned a champion German Shepherd.

He served on the board of directors of the Brookridge Country Club in Overland Park, KS and was also an avid sailor. He was always in- venting little things to make life easier and loved a good project. After retiring to Sarasota, Bob was a volunteer tram driver at the Rin- gling Museum for many years. He was an avid golfer and one of the original members of the Mote Ranch Golf Association. Bob was a member of Suncoast Chapter 53, Amateur Radio Operators; the Quarter Cen- tury Wireless the American Radio Relay League and the Sara- sota PC Users Group.

He was a dedi- cated usher for the Mass at St. Martha Catholic Church in Sarasota, FL. Bob leaves behind a loving family including his wife of 32 years, Kath- leen, sons Gary Modrcin (Ann) of Olathe, KS, Larry Modrcin (Diane) of Parrish, FL, step-children Linda For- mella (Joe) of Bradenton, FL, Mike Griffin (Kim) of Tampa, FL, Jim Grif- fin (Kim) of Odessa, FL and Barbara Gutierrez of Sarasota, FL. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren who loved him dearly. REVEREND DOCTOR JACK MONTGOMERY Jackie Delno Montgomery passed into the arms of his Savior on June 18, 2014. A long serving United Methodist Minister, Reverend Mont- gomery served numerous Missouri communities and greatly influenced many Missouri citizens. Born January 19, 1934 in Bismarck, Missouri to Harry and Alta Montgomery Jack was the eleventh of twelve children. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Valle Fulbright Mont- gomery, three siblings, four children, 13 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Surviving siblings are Leo Montgomery, Norma Jean Hopp and Frankie Conway.

Jack and beloved children are Monty Montgomery (Neana), Marty Mont- gomery (Jane), Kelly Mackison (Edward and Tracy Hoyer (Todd). Reverend Montgomery offi- ciated the wedding ceremonies for his children and married grandchil- dren. He baptized his grandchildren and great grandchildren in the United Methodist Church. A graduate of Bismarck High School in 1951; Jack enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served in the Korean War. Upon his return to Missouri, Jack married his high school sweetheart Valle Ful- bright, the daughter of a Methodist Minister.

Dr. Montgomery was hired by McDonnell Douglas where he worked on the Mercury spacecraft. He was then hired at Aeronautical Chart Information Center in South St. Louis as a cartographer where helped map the moon surface. The Montgomery family lived in the Her- culaneum area where he served on the Dunklin R-5 School Board, volun- teered with the Boy Scouts and Lit- tle League Baseball.

During this time Jack embraced sobriety turning his life over to Jesus Christ. Jack and Valle moved to Cheyenne Wyoming where they pursued addi- tional education culminating in Jack earning a Doctorate of Theology. He retired as a GS-13 from government service and returned to Missouri to become a Methodist Minister. Jack and Valle served the United Meth- odist Church for thirty-five years even coming out of retirement to revitalize struggling churches. He loved his family and took particular pride in his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jack loved to fish and kept an extensive collection of St. Louis Cardinal memorabilia. Dr. Montgomery will be sorely missed by his family and friends but they can look forward to joining him for a glorious reunion in heaven. A memorial service will be held at Willard United Methodist Church, Willard, Missouri on the 28th of June 2014.

He was born September 20,1937, to Reno and Gladys Otten, in Syra- cuse, MO. They moved to L.A. when he was 2. He grew up there and graduated from Downey high school. For several years he worked in the field of heavy equipment and machinery moving.

In 2003 he re- tired and moved back to Kansas City. He loved gardening and the Chiefs. He was preceded in death by his parents; oldest son Michael, and brother Marvin (Linda) Otten.
